This August, the Lansdowne-Yeadon Elm Street Program is partnering with the Boroughs of Lansdowne and Yeadon and Group Cares, a faith-based community service organization, to provide minor home repairs and renovations, landscaping assistance, and rain barrel installation to elderly, disabled, and low-income neighborhood residents through Workcamp 2011. Previously, the Boroughs of Lansdowne and Yeadon partnered with the Community Action Agency of Delaware County (CAADC) to host Group Workcamps in 2007, 2008, and 2009. We look forward to continued success in 2011!
WEEK 1 | August 1-5
Over 100 senior high school volunteers and the adult leaders of their church youth groups will perform services free of charge to qualified homeowners. The William Penn School District is providing housing for Group Workcamps volunteers at the Penn Wood High School Cypress Street Campus. Group Workcamps welcomes neighborhood residents and community stakeholders to join their daily fellowship programs.
WEEK 2 | August 8-12
Community members will volunteer to complete any work unfinished by Group Workcamps volunteers and assist additional homeowners with smaller scale projects. Members of the community include neighborhood residents and their family and friends as well as private, public, and non-profit organizations throughout the region. Alliance Bank has already committed staff as volunteers for three days of this effort. To join us, sign up here to volunteer as an individual or group!
The Lansdowne-Yeadon Elm Street Program is soliciting donations of cash, food, beverages, equipment (especially ladders), and materials to help volunteers complete these projects. Contact the Elm Street Manager at 610.745.4063 or ElmStreet@LansdowneYeadon.com regarding sponsorship opportunities.
